How to use the PNG to JPG Converter

    1. 1
      Drop a PNG (or many)
Drag PNG files onto the upload zone, or click to pick from your device. Multiple files at once are fine.
    2. 2
      Pick quality + background
JPEG has no transparency — choose a background colour to replace the alpha channel (white is the default). Higher quality = larger file.
    3. 3
      Click Convert
Postcrest decodes each PNG in your browser and re-encodes as JPG. No upload, no server processing.
    4. 4
      Download
Click Download on any result, or right-click to save. Original PNGs are unchanged on your device.

What is a PNG → JPG conversion?

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless image format with optional transparency. It produces large file sizes because it preserves every pixel exactly — great for icons, logos and screenshots, but heavy for photos and web banners.

JPG (or JPEG) is a lossy compressed format that drops perceptually less-important detail to produce dramatically smaller files. It doesn't support transparency, which is why this tool asks for a background colour to fill the alpha channel when converting.

Most photos shared online, on social networks and in ads are JPGs because the lossy compression typically achieves 70-90% smaller files than PNG at visually identical quality. Converting a PNG screenshot to JPG before uploading is a quick way to cut bandwidth and storage.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is this tool really free?
Yes. Free forever, no signup, no watermarks, no per-file limits. Files never leave your browser.
Does my PNG get uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser via the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to Postcrest's servers or any third-party service.
    What's the maximum file size?
There is no fixed limit — only what your device's memory can hold in a Canvas. Most modern laptops handle 50+ MB PNGs without issue.
    How is JPEG quality controlled?
The quality slider maps to the standard JPEG quality value (0-1). 0.9 is the default; 0.95 is near-lossless; 0.7 is reasonable for previews.
    What about transparent PNGs?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so the alpha channel is composited onto your chosen background colour (white by default).
    Can I batch-convert a folder?
Yes — drop multiple files (or shift-select them in the file picker). Each is converted in turn and listed for download.
    Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The tool runs on iOS Safari and Android Chrome. Very large files may hit per-tab memory limits on phones — try one file at a time if so.
Can I use the converted JPGs commercially?
Yes. The conversion is just a format change of your own file — you keep all rights to your image.
